Samsung NX300 dial repair
After my NX30’s dials called for attention, my NX300 didn’t want to be left behind and its mode dial started acting up too, erratically switching modes with just a touch. I took the opportunity to disassemble the camera, clean both dials with a contact cleaner spray1, and document the process.
I’ve numbered colour-coded the screws that you’ll encounter:
- S1: Fine-pitch silver screw into metal, highlighted in blue
- S2: Fine-pitch black screw into metal, highlighted in red
- S3: Fine-pitch shorter silver screw into metal, highlighted in green
- S4: Coarse-pitch silver screw into plastic, highlighted in yellow
- S4: Coarse-pitch shorter silver screw into plastic, highlighted in purple
Disassembly
First take out the battery, then remove all three screws on the side and three of the five screws on the bottom:
Now you can take out the back part of the camera. It’s clipped in at the top and a part of it extends “under” the curve on the left.
With the PCB now exposed, unplug the FPC going to the top plate and unscrew one screw on the top left of the camera:

You’ll now need to unscrew a screw located under the hotshoe cover plate. Lift the plate with e.g. a small flat screwdriver, slide it back, then unscrew the left screw:
Now pry off the top cover; it’s being held by some clips at the front. Then disconnect two FPCs from the dial PCB, unscrew three screws holding the PCB to the plate, and one extra screw holding in the command dial.

Now you have access to both the dials for cleaning. The square component on the left is the mode dial switch, likely a Shinmei SSS-60MD-8. The shutter button, on the bottom, is likely the same as on the NX30, an ALPS SKRN-series switch.

The command dial is a custom part this time. The encoder is made out of an FFC with golden contact pads and a metal “rake” affixed to the wheel. This means you can’t just replace it with one new part, but it also makes the dial more repairable.
Notes
Once again, I’m publishing the unannotated photos of the disassembly.
